Your spelling checked for life
There is nothing more criminal than a writer who hands in copy or publishes any kind of work – be it online or in print – that has spelling errors. But with this app it’s something you’ll never have to worry about again.
Even the tiniest of typos can put a reader off of your work, tarnishing your credibility as a writer. But with Spell Checker (+voice input), an app for Android, you can check all of your written pieces thoroughly, making sure that they are as clean as a whistle before they are published. The upgraded version now includes voice input as well, making spell checking far more convenient for the user.
My favourite part of this app is how easy it is to use, with a plain interface where you simply paste or type your copy into a white box and tap ‘Check spelling’. It will either confirm that there are no spelling errors or it will alert you to problematic words or phrases. It will also make suggestions and offer your alternative spelling possibilities, which you can simply click on to replace or ignore.
Exporting the corrected copy is very easy too. You simply copy the content off of the white screen by clicking the ‘Copy’ tab, which you can then paste into a document. You can also send the content by using Bluetooth, email, Gmail, messaging or other programs like Skype or Facebook. As a writer, if you have apps like Journal – Orange Diary Pro, it will also allow you the option of exporting the information there.
The Spell Checker app interface includes a picture of a microphone which, if you tap, you can use for voice input or speech recognition. This works smoothly and efficiently – a great addition to the app. Simply say the words and they will appear on the screen. I prefer typing out my work as I find voice recognition features more trouble than they are worth in most cases, but on Spell Checker, it seems to work pretty efficiently, as long as you speak clearly.
The app is also universal, designed for just about any writer across the globe. It supports a variety of languages including Spanish, Dutch, French and Italian, proving that writers need to spell well in any language.
The only flaw in this app is that there are quite a few adverts, but what more can one expect from a free app? The Pro Version is available on Google play for R25.78 and I would recommend downloading it. It costs just a bit more than a cup of coffee and is something that you will use everyday in every piece of writing that you work on.
Every writer should have a spell check app on their Android smart phone and, as far as these kinds of apps go, this is the one that I would recommend, giving it a 4-star rating. It’s simple and to the point with a clean interface and functional features. If you don’t have it already, download it now!
