Writing Prompts by Writing.com is an app designed for fiction writers in need of inspiration. The Writing.com site has dedicated itself to running an online community for writers, and this app is another step towards getting writers writing.

Writing Prompts does what its name suggests, but it does so in various ways. There are four different prompt generators in this app, and they are Scenes, Sketches, Texts and Words. The Words section gives a series of words that you can arrange on screen to form a phrase or a sentence, while the Texts section gives you a prompt that includes a style and genre to follow.

The scenes section gives you a combination of Place, Character, Object, Time, Smell, Mood and Weather that create thought provoking scenarios. I enjoyed the Sketches section that adds in images to get those creative juices flowing. Use a shake or a swipe to change the prompts and save your favourites to the Favourite section or post the prompts on Facebook.

With 400 words, 250 scene elements, more than 80 genres and 60 sketches, this app can create hundreds of thousands of prompt combinations that will keep you writing for a months. And if you need to, you can add one of four addition packs for $0.99 which each pack comes hundreds of new scene elements and sketches that will make for millions of writing prompts.
