Wiki Encyclopedia Pro
Cut out the tedious search navigation on the internet, and link directly to Wikipedia from your Android device. For the quickest access to Wiki information on your phone or tablet – without the ads – Wiki Pro is definitely the way to go.
Formatted specifically for Android, this app can be viewed in more than 150 languages using either type search or voice search options. Tap on the app to get today’s featured article and a quick overview on the latest international news. Wiki Pro will auto-fill your search option, making it even easier to navigate the web for your desired information. A question mark will appear at the left corner of the app to indicate whether or not the article or search results include a list of references, related reading, or external links.
There are helpful tabs below your search results showing certain characteristics of the search you have entered: Show Background gives you the background details of the information; Show Gallery will present the pictures related to the article; Show See-also are links or articles that have been viewed by others who have also searched for the particular information; Show Reference will give you all the links as to where the information originates; Show Notes will display notes created by various authors on the particular topic; and Show External Links displays links that will expand on the subject at hand.
There are many other ‘Show’ tabs. For example, searching for information on a certain country or city will include the History, Etymology, Geography, Culture, and Economy show tabs.
A toolbox is available to display links, related changes, and special pages. The application uses smart memory to remember your Wikipedia language and text size preference. You may copy the text, switch between Wikipedia and Wikitravel sites, and even move the app to your SD card. Wiki Encyclopedia Pro earns a brilliant 4.7 stars on the Android market for its versatility, but there are still users who would prefer the app to have bookmarks and display more images in the search results. I concur – bookmarks would be a great idea.
Although the app is great, the free version also allows me to navigate around Wiki with ease, the only real problem with the free version are the ads that are displayed. This didn’t bother me much, but if it’s not something you would like to adjust to, then this ad-free version is cheap enough for you to purchase.
