The setup is simple: all you need is to buy Splashtop for your iPad and download the streamer program for your computer to allow yourself access to your computer over Wi-Fi and 3G/4G networks. What gives this app the advantage over other remote desktop viewers is its speed. Splashtop finds your computer in a matter of seconds and connects just as quickly, giving you full access to your computer.

Simple gestures replace your mouse as you navigate your desktop. One tap to click, tap and hold to right-click. Drag two fingers for window scroll or three for screen pan. Once you get used to the moves then it’s easy, but I would suggest using a stylus for this app as the controls can get a little tricky at times.

I tested this app with a laptop running Windows 7 and I could open, edit and save MS Office documents, watch videos, play games, check my e-mails on Outlook and access iTunes. It worked like a charm when connect via Wi-Fi, but some users report difficulty when connecting via 3G. While I bought this app on a sale for $1.99, the usual price is $4.99. For me, $1.99 is worth it, but I would check your hardware and network provider speed to make sure that you have the speed for this app before investing $4.99.
