This app simulates the fret board on a guitar and lets you strum and fret as you would on a real one. What’s great about this app is that it also teaches you how play.  To learn how to play a song, select the Learn option from the main menu and then select a song. The app comes with four preloaded songs that are easy to learn. When you’re learning, dots show up on the fret board where you should place your fingers, and you won’t be forced into the next chord before you have completed the first one.

Customizable options include the ability to display lyrics when you auto play a song and the option to mute extra notes when you’re playing. This is great for filtering out those accidental strums while you’re learning. You can also set the app work for left-handed people, tune the guitar and change the theme colour. This app comes with a tutorial so that you can learn how to harness all of its features.

What I really liked about Guitar Free is the option to change the size of the strumming area as well as the fret and string width. This is important when you’re trying to simulate a guitar on an iPhone or iPad. You can upgrade this app to Guitar Complete for $9.99. With this upgrade you get over 500 songs and many extra features.

It’s pretty amazing what you get in this app for free. It’s a great sounding simulation and perfect for anyone who wants to learn and even those who play well. If you hate leaving your guitar at home when you travel, then this app will make a convenient replacement!
