Best Android apps for wine lovers
If you’re a fan of your wine and enjoy learning about vino-culture, there are a wide variety of apps for your Android that are designed to make you an expert wine connoisseur.
The greatest thing about wine is not only drinking it – although that part is pretty tasty – but also learning all about wine culture, history, types and blends. The wine industry is a vast field of information, which is why it is so handy to have your Android smart phone available for quick and easy download of apps that will give you access to all of this information.
One of the first things that is a useful tool to have on your Android smart phone is a wine dictionary. Wine Expert Dictionary is a fabulous concept in terms of a wine app for Android, providing the user with a glossary and definitions when it comes to wines. A free app on the Android market, Wine Expert Dictionary explains what grapes are used to make certain wines as well as how food will effect certain wines. This app still has a long way to go in terms of development, but is a fabulous one to try out for a bit of general knowledge.
Another app to use as a reference tool, although it still has a little while to go in terms of development is the Wine and Vintages World Ed, another app that is available for free off of the Android market. It’s a little thin in terms of information, but has a lovely interface and includes the South African Stellenbosch region, which is a plus in terms of local content.
There are however amazing apps available that would just be so much more appealing if they included South Africa in their reference point. Wine – List, Ratings & Cellar is an awesome app from Metosphere that allows you to rate wines out of five stars, add comments and learn more about the wine if need be. You can create a whole journal or log book that you can refer back to if you are looking for that perfect wine you had a few months ago. These functions work great, even if you are in South Africa. The only downside is that the app directs you to websites for certain wines as well as where you can buy them online, which are never in South Africa and all based in a dollar currency. This is the only part of the app that you can’t use. Otherwise, it’s a great one to check out.
To save the best for last is my favourite wine app on the market, Hello Vino. This app will give you full on recommendations for wines in great detail whether it’s for food pairings or for a first date. It offers descriptions of the wines and lets you choose based on your preferences. This app has been so well developed and the developers have really tried to think everything. From which wine goes best with seafood sauce pasta to what champagne to drink during the holidays, you’ll find everything here.
There are tons of ways to utilize your wine knowledge with your Android smart phone along with the range of apps available for wine lovers. Pour yourself a glass and get stuck in!
